Our annual Invest in Youth Breakfast is East King County’s premier fundraising event that brings together 1000+ generous individuals with a passion for helping young people and their families. None of it would be possible without the help of our Table Captains.

Each year around 100 individuals and companies volunteer to serve as Table Captains and invite their friends, family, colleagues and community members to join them in their support of YES. They are the spirit behind our event, stepping up on behalf of children, youth and families struggling with mental health and substance use issues.

Megan Wills Kullnat has been a table captain at the annual YES’ Invest in Youth Breakfast for the past six years. It’s the memory of her first breakfast that keeps motivating Megan to participate every year.

“My first YES breakfast in 2012 featured Elizabeth Smart as the keynote speaker. I was drawn to the breakfast to hear her speak, having little knowledge of YES as an organization. Her speech was as moving as expected, but I was surprised to find the teen YES speeches to be equally powerful and emotional. I left the breakfast committed to becoming more involved. When a fellow Allegro colleague and friend invited me to be a Table Captain the following year, I jumped at the opportunity.”

As a pediatrician, Megan recognizes the increasing threats to the physical and mental health of youth, and as a mother, she’s concerned about the challenges her own children may face someday. She finds it easy to feel overwhelmed and hopeless when she confronts these challenges by herself.

“There is power in numbers and in community support. Supporting YES as a Table Captain gives me the opportunity to help rally our community in support of at-risk kids.”

As Megan prepares for her seventh year as Table Captain, she now sees the occasion as social tradition and as an opportunity to fundraise for YES who support children, youth and their families who are struggling with mental health and substance use issues.

“I have a solid base of friends and family who look forward to attending the breakfast and catching up each year. It is also an opportunity to recruit new YES advocates and help fulfill their important mission.”
