Mentorship Pair Judy and Emerald Find Comfort in Each Other

Mentoring spoke to Judy’s heart
It all started when Judy’s friend invited her to YES’ annual Invest in Youth Fundraising Event.
“Hearing the stories lead me to have great compassion for the kids, their struggles in life,” says Judy.
With her two kids grown and out of the house and as a recently retired nurse, YES’ SUCCESS Mentoring Program spoke to her heart.
A new living situation for Emerald
Emerald* is a passionate and goofy high school senior. At first, she didn’t have high expectations for YES’ SUCCESS Mentoring Program. She was adjusting to a new living situation with her grandparents when her YES counselor suggested she might want to get involved with the program.
Finding comfort
Judy and Emerald have been together as a mentorship pair for over a year and five months. Their favorite memory is of their first meeting when they went to the zoo. Judy was amazed at how comfortable Emerald was sharing thoughts, feelings, and activities with her.
The two go thrift shopping at Value Village; they take walks together; Judy teaches Emerald how to cook. They often spend hours just talking.
For Emerald, the continuity of this caring relationship has been a real comfort.
“My mentor is a source of continuous positive reinforcement which is something I’ve really needed.”
You, too, can make a significant impact
SUCCESS Mentoring works to help youth who need additional support in their lives. Adults over the age of 21, who can commit to 2-4 hours a week, are encouraged to apply. No experience is necessary! YES provides you with training and support. If you’re interested in having a positive impact on a young person’s life, visit our SUCCESS webpage for more information. For any questions, contact Jake Marsh at 425-747-4937 x 2345.
Many of our programs, like the SUCCESS Mentoring Program, are made possible by generous donations from supporters like you. Please consider making a donation to YES today to support behavioral health services for children, youth, and families, regardless of the ability to pay.
*At YES, we respect everyone who comes to us for support, and many youth are working on improving their lives. So while their stories are true, client names and images may have been changed to protect their privacy. Thank you for understanding.
