2020 Invest in Youth Event

Thank you for supporting YES!

THANK YOU!

A great, big THANK YOU for participating in the Invest in Youth Virtual Event!

Because of our generous supporters, we blew past our Invest in Youth Breakfast goal of $800,000! You helped us raise over $923,000 to support children, youth, and families struggling with mental health and substance use challenges.

During this crisis, when our young clients needed more support than ever, you were there for them, ensuring they continue to receive evidence-based therapy (virtually) regardless of their ability to pay.

We are enormously grateful for your support!

A CONVERSATION WITH PENNY LEGATE

YES Chief Executive Officer, Patti Skelton-McGougan sits down with former KIRO-7 anchor Penny LeGate to talk about the state of our local youth and their mental health and substance use challenges.

THIS IS LIAM'S STORY

YES client Liam, who is now 18 years old, was always an active kid. Growing up he was involved with boxing, music, songwriting and his favorite, participating on a nationally ranked paintball team. But at the age of 13, after befriending youth in a local gang, his life took a turn for the worst.

Eventually, Liam was arrested and placed in a juvenile hall. Upon his release, he reached out to YES Counselor Ty Edwards who provides services at the Kirkland Teen Union Building (KTUB).

HOW TO HAVE THAT DIFFICULT CONVERSATION

One of the most common questions we get at YES is, “How do I talk to my child about suicide/mental health?” So, we asked local middle and high school students, how they would like their parents to approach the conversation, and what would they like them to know.

Watch YES’ brand new educational film Talk to Me which uses those replies, and also tips from YES Behavioral Health Support Specialist, Michelle Brode to help parents and adults feel more comfortable, having difficult conversations with youth.

TAKE A STAND WITH KEVIN HINES

Invest in Youth Breakfast keynote speaker Kevin Hines, is a long time advocate of youth mental health services. In the year 2000, Kevin Hines attempted to take his life by jumping off the Golden Gate Bridge. After experiencing a miraculous survival, Kevin now travels the world sharing his story of hope, healing, and recovery.

YOU CAN STILL GIVE!

Now more than ever we need your help to raise $800,000 to transform the lives of youth and families in East King County. The Invest in Youth Breakfast is YES’ only fundraiser of the year, accounting for more than two-thirds of all annual donations. Funds help ensure that ALL children, youth and families, have access to critical mental health and substance use services and programs, regardless of their ability to pay.

$5,000 Pays for one year of life-saving, evidence-based Youth & Family Counseling Services.

$2,500 Provides research-proven skills to manage suicidal thoughts using Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT).

$1,000 Helps a teen struggling with substance use and co-occurring disorders begin the recovery process.

$500 Supports recruiting, training, and guiding adult volunteer SUCCESS mentors.

$200 Underwrites a YES School presentation on how to recognize the signs of a mental health disorder.
