Adam Stops Spiraling

Thanks to YES’ WISe Team, Adam has overcome significant challenges.

Adam has faced challenges that no young person should endure. From early childhood, he struggled with depression and anxiety, feelings that only grew worse as he entered high school.

“I always felt like I had a sense of depression or anxiety,” Adam recalls, “but there was a defining moment where it got worse.”

That moment came when Adam’s struggles surfaced at school, which led to disciplinary action and a restraining order from the parents of a close friend. From there, his life spiraled. Adam was shuffled between schools and monitored by a paraeducator.

Eventually, Adam’s depression grew so severe that he experienced suicidal ideation. His mother took immediate action, calling 911, and Adam was admitted to Seattle Children’s Hospital. From there, he was transferred between several psychiatric facilities, each one unable to provide the ongoing support he needed.

The turning point came when Adam connected with YES’ WISe team. WISe (Wraparound with Intensive Services) provided Adam with the intensive counseling and consistent support he needed to stabilize his mental health.

“The team at YES were amazing. They’re the reason why I’m here right now.”

Adam was enrolled in a local alternative school and began transitioning back to public school. The WISe team attended all of his school meetings and kept Adam’s mother informed, ensuring a coordinated approach to his care.

Now, Adam is thriving. He feels like he has a lot of energy, and many people have pointed out to him how much he’s been smiling. Adam plans to graduate this summer and is already researching colleges. He wants to give back by becoming a counselor or social worker.

Adam’s story is a testament to the power of compassion and coordinated care. Through the YES’ WISe program, Adam is not only surviving but thriving, ready to embrace the future with hope and purpose.
