Sexual Abuse Recovery

From Victim to Survivor
As many as one in three teenagers has been sexually assaulted, with victims often left struggling to overcome emotional, behavioral and social difficulties in the aftermath.  Individual counseling offers youth the opportunity to begin the healing process, while therapy groups for teen survivors help them realize they are not alone.  Whether the abuse occurred months or years ago, or whether it’s still going on, YES helps youth move from victim to survivor.

As many as 1 in 3 girls and 1 in 5 boys under age 18 have been sexually abused.  That includes date rape, incest, unwelcome touching or forced sexual activity.  Whether it’s a stranger or someone they care about, being touched sexually against their will is sexual abuse and it’s illegal and wrong.

Youth who have been molested have the potential to feel many different feelings including isolation, shame, guilt, anger, fear and sadness.  These are normal feelings, but they do not have to be alone—YES is here to help.

YES can Help
Youth who come to YES for sexual abuse counseling will be able to talk confidentially, one-on-one with a counselor who specializes in evidenced-based sexual abuse treatment.  These counselors understand the many ways sexual abuse can impact one’s life and can help youth begin the therapeutic process, cope with what they’ve been through, and be more prepared for decisions in their future.

In addition to individual counseling for sexual abuse survivors between the ages of 6 and 21, YES also offers family counseling for non-offending family members and group counseling.  And we offer a teen dating violence program specifically for teens harmed in a dating relationship, click here for more information.
