YES Classes & Community Offerings
Parenting Class for Parents of ADHD/ADD Children Series of Eight Classes
Cost: $160 (pre-payment required)*
Location: YES Crossroads Park, Bellevue
Schedule: Wednesdays, February 24th through April 14th
Time: 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

A series of eight 90 minute classes will empower parents to navigate the joys and challenges of children with Attention Deficit Disorder or Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder.

Topics for the eight class series will include:

• An Overview of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). What is ADHD? ADD? What related conditions might exist with ADHD?

• The current medical practices & treatment for children and teens. A guest Developmental Physician will explain the science of ADHD, the assessment & evaluation process, treatment options (medications and psychosocial interventions) and how to decide on a treatment plan.

• The social & emotional development & support strategies as well as age appropriate positive behavior interventions that work, including smart discipline with rewards & consequences.

• The Impact of ADHD on the Family. Finding balance and support strategies including social skill development.

• Working with schools & study related problems. Plans of accommodation (Section 504 and IEP). The importance of strong parent/teacher communication and tips for organizing school work & supplies.

• Resources available including local & national organizations, books, magazines, newsletters and websites.

Instructor & Facilitator: Sandy Malone-Long has taught group ADD/ADHD classes for parents & children for 10 years at Group Heath Cooperative and has over 30 years experience in individual and group counseling with expertise in both ADHD and highly capable youth. Lori Homes has experience as a teacher, youth counselor and the parent of an ADHD child. She has been a counselor and parent educator at YES for over 20 years. She is currently in private practice in Redmond, WA.

Camp Mariposa For Kids 9-12 years old
Cost: FREE for approved participants
Location: Camp Waskowitz, North Bend, WA.
Schedule: June 4-6th, 2010
Youth Eastside Services and The Moyer Foundation offer Camp Mariposa - an overnight camp aimed at helping children who have been affected by the drug and/or alcohol addiction of a family member. Camp Mariposa For Kids serves 9 - 12 year olds struggling with the substance abuse of a parent or guardian. 

Camp Mariposa is a two-day camp consisting of traditional fun activities with therapeutic elements. The camp is designed to increase participants' understanding of drug and alcohol issues and the impact on the family, to raise their awareness of resources available to help them, and to reduce their sense of isolation.

Space is limited, so contact YES right away for more information or to start the intake process for a potential camper.

COST: The camp is FREE for all approved participants (approval subject to intake process by YES staff).  Camp participants are required to pay a refundable (upon camp attendance) fee of $20.

The next Camp Mariposa for Kids is scheduled September 17-19. Camp Mariposa for Teens (13-16 years old) is scheduled May 14-16 and October 22-24.

Alcohol & Drug Education Class
Cost: $75*
Location: Bellevue YES office at Crossroads Park
Schedule: Saturday, March 27th
Time: 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

This four hour, one-time class teaches parents and kids about the effects of drug and alcohol use. Youth and parent classes are held separately but simultaneously.

Topics Include:

1) Current Drugs of Abuse 
2) Brain and Body Effects of Drugs and Alcohol 
3) Legal and Other Consequences for Youth 
4) Risks of Progression (from Use to Abuse to Addiction) 
5) Recognizing a Drug/Alcohol Problem and What To Do About It 
6) Making Decisions That Keep You Out of Trouble

Camp Mariposa For Teens

Time: Friday at 4:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Sunday

B-GLAD Teen Support Group
Cost: Free
Location: Old Redmond Firehouse Teen Center
Schedule: Thursdays 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.

B-GLAD is a drop-in support group open to kids ages 12 to 19 who may identify themselves as lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender or who may be questioning their sexuality. Co-facilitated by trained professionals, the B-GLAD group enables youth to 

1) Meet their peers and share common concerns
2) Ask questions in a safe environment
3) Receive information and support in a professional setting that encourages responsible decision-making.

Love, Etc Support Group
Cost: Free
Location: Confidential
Schedule: Wednesdays
Time: Confidential
Love, Etc. is a free weekly drop-in confidential support group for teens (13-20) who are, or have been, in an abusive relationship.  

This girl's only group will focus on:
1) Real talk about relationships
2) Increasing physical and emotional safety
3) Decreasing isolation
4) Processing emotions and ambivalence
5) Deconstructing abusive tactics, empowerment, and overall non-judgmental support.

Mamas and Papas
Cost: Free
Location: YES Crossroads Park
Schedule: Monthly
Time: 6:00 - 7:30 pm
Mama's and Papas Support Group is a partnership with YES' next door neighbor, Kindering Center. The group meets once a month and is run by Kindering staff for grandparents raising their grandkids. 

YES provides an activity based support group for the children. Grandparents and kids meets together at 6:00 PM for pizza, then the two groups will split up and meet until 7:30.

Parent Support Group
Cost: Free
Location: YES Crossroads Park, Bellevue
Schedule: Wednesdays
Time: 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
This support group offers ongoing support and guidance addressing concerns about substance abuse. The group's purpose is to promote and support family recovery from youth substance abuse.  Friends are welcome as well.
